How to Sell Used Books Online

Here are the three best places that I know of to sell used books online. On a personal note, I prefer to sell on Ebay since its auction oriented, and one of the fastest growing online marketplaces. This page will mainly focus on selling on EBay. Books happen to be some of the best selling items on Ebay. If you've ever wanted to start an Ebay business but didn't know what to sell, books are the perfect products to sell on Ebay. To sell on Ebay you will need an Ebay account, if you don't already have one you can sign up for one here.

Ebay has an excellent "how to sell on Ebay" section with audio and video tutorials, this is a great way to get yourself familiar with Ebay if you have never sold on Ebay before.

Information to Disclose About a Book

No matter where you sell your books you will always want to include the following information about them:

  • Book Title

  • Author

  • Book Description

  • Copyright Page Information

  • Edition

  • Book Condition Grade

  • Book/Dust Jacket Condition Description

  • All flaws

Pictures should also be taken with a decent quality digital camera. If you already have one you're probably all set. But if you don't I have to recommend the Canon PowerShot A590IS. I did a great deal of research and found that particular camera to be the best camera for the cost. At the very least the following pictures should be included:

  • Front Cover

  • Copyright Page

  • Any Flaws

 

Handling Payments on eBay

The two best ways to accept payments on eBay are by Money Order, and Paypal.

  • Paypal Is the easiest and most accepted way to accept and make payments on eBay

  • You can sign up for Paypal here.

  • Once you're signed up you have the option to use Paypal on your auctions and people will be able to pay you with a credit card through them, you can then transfer that money right to your bank account through Paypal, it's very simple to use.

 

After A Sale is Made

Follow up with email

Once a sale is paid for by the buyer and the package has been shipped an email should be sent. This email should state that the package has shipped, and provide the tracking number if available.

 

About Feedback

From time to time you will receive emails with questions or emails from customers that are happy / unhappy. When this happens it is good to reply promptly and professionally. Try to satisfy your customers so that if they leave feedback it will likely be positive. If you're selling on eBay, their feedback system is extremely important to your selling success. The most common reason a customer will leave negative feedback is because of simple things like not answering emails or simply not working out simple problems. It's easy to have great feedback if you make customer satisfaction and service a high priority.
